This week wasnt too intresting so i will go back and tell some of my favorite stories that i forgot/didnt have time to send before.
First off, and i cant beleive i forgot this untill now, is the amazing disappearing investigator.
We gave a man the first lesson, and set up an appointment to return. He is a fairly large man that is about 45. But he wasnt there when we went to the door. As we turned around Elder Ramos saw him in the mechanic's shop across the street ducking for cover. We stood there for a while trying to decide what to do. He obviously was trying to stay away from us, but we did have an appointment. So we decided to play dumb and ask his mechanic freind if he knew where he was. So we crossed the street and went to talk to the mechanic, we asked him if he knew where he was, he said that he thought that he had left about an hour before, we gave him a pass along card and talked to him for just a minute when i got a great idea. There was another man working on a car further in the shop, so i asked if i could go give him a card also. He agreed to let me go in and I walked to the back to give him the card, when i turned to return to the front, I found my investigator. He had crawled under a desk and was quite poorly hidden and looked rediculous. His friend had tried to help him hide by moving a sheet of metal/painted wood infront of my obvious view of the man. It didnt do anything but make it all the funnier. I kept a straight face untill i was out of the shop (I decided not to embarace the man by revieling that i saw him in such a rediculous situation) and then about three steps out I burst out laughing and was nearly crying as I tried to explain what I saw to Elder Ramos.
Second is "who let the dogs out"
I was on a division with my zone leader while elder Ramos did a baptismal interview with the other zone leader. We went to a house that was in the back of an alley. The house that was second to last is the house of the mother of one of the members who likes the church but is very strongly catholic. She has a very loud dog that is quite friendly but barks and snarls like he is very angry and about to kill you. When we came to the door of the investigator, the dog was barking like mad. Just as Elder Wright said, I hope that dog doesnt get out because we are cornered, the dog got our and charged us. I stepped infront and basically caught the dog and started to pet it. Elder Wright was scared and I made fun of him a little bit. But he got his revenge because as we were walking down the street later, we passed a gate and a big dog jumped at the gate and I about jumped out of my skin.
Third this happened in the middle of the dog story. What would it take to make you believe.
When we were on this devision and after the dog jumped at us we talked to the investigators at that house. The husband is a very calm and placid man, the wife is not. She refused to except our message, she lost all arguement and was only using stuborness as a defence. All we wanted her to do was pray about the message but she would not. She kept saying my religion is true for me and yours in true for you. We asked her first how many gods do we have, she wouldnt answer so we answered, "one." "and does God change?" again she refused to answer so we answered "no" "and how many churches did Christ organize when he was on the earth?" she finally answered "Mine" (she is a catholic). Rather than attack her beliefs we asked her "how so you know that?" she refused to answer. We continued untill finally Elder Wright asked her, "If God came down right now and told you that our church was true would you join it" she said no. Frazled by the comment Elder Wright said "no, you dont understand GOD appeared and told you this." she said no again, a third time Elder Wright explained that this was god appearing and telling her this, finally she said "maybe." (Progress at last) She said "but i was born catholic and my family is catholic and my sister is catholic what do you want me to do tell them that they are all wrong." We told her many biblical stories of people that did the same but she wouldnt listen. So in the end we got very little out of a very long and one-sided arguement.
I will just say about this week that we had a very poor week of work but a good week built on one day. On sunday we did 117 contact I personally did 71 of those. We spent all day doing contacts. We did have two people come to church with us also and they might be baptised next week, one of them cant read but the other has read part of the book of mormon and says that she knows it is true. The other lady prayed about the message and says that she knows that we are "angels from/of God" 'Angelos de Deus' depends on the translation. So that is awesome.
Im going to try to send some pictures by emain so i am going to cut my writing off there.
Love you all and thank you for your support. Thank you mom and lillian for the package it is wonderfull. I am going to get very fat from all that candy and cookies.
